If
you are shopping for a good plumber, air conditioning contractor, etc.,
here's a great
page from the Phoenix Metro Better Business Bureau from which you can
send (to all BBB-accredited contractors in your area) a request for
quotes on a job. I recently had a minor plumbing job and used this site -
within 24 hours I had 30 bids! Just go to the page, fill in the type of
service you are looking for (e.g., "plumbing contractor"), then
click GO - on the next page, click on "Click here to request a
quote...." Way cool!

If
you don't want to spend money on antivirus software, I recommend this free
software: Microsoft
Security Essentials. It's a simple interface, easy to use, and gets very
good reviews. Remember that if you use MSE, you do NOT need need to run
Windows Defender

Spybot
Search & Destroy finds and eliminates spyware on your computer. I
use it to scan my computer once a week (but I do NOT run it in the
background at other times). Remember to search for updates each time before
you run the scan to make sure you have the latest malware definitions.
-
I
also recommend CCleaner, freeware
that I run once a week to clean up left-over files from my computer.
Remember to run an update each time before you run the program, to be sure
you have the latest version.

Here's
a page that explains how I use MSE, Spybot, and CCleaner (the three free
programs listed above).

Here's
a free program that allows you to create
PDF versions of any document.

Belarc
Advisor is a great freeware program that does an inventory of your
computer's hardware and software - very handy when working with tech support
folks.
